Now that you've custom painted your helmet you will want to take good
care of it to insure that the finish looks great for years to come.
On my end, I have taken great care to clean and prep it prior to painting
it. After I apply the paint, graphics and airbrushing I clean it thoroughly
with grease and wax remover. This step is followed by at least four
coats of urethane clear, which in turn is buffed and polished to a high
gloss finish.
Since your helmet was painted with automotive grade paint, I reccomend
you clean your helmet with products made for cleaning cars. For day
to day cleaning and polishing you can use hand glaze, available at your
local auto paint supplier. Use one towel to rub the glaze into the surface
of the helmet, allowing it to flash. Then procede to wipe off the film
residue with a second towel. It will look like new every time. You can
use rubbing compounds (also available at your local auto paitn supplier)
to romove light scratches. Always use non-abrasive towels. Follow the
product's instructions diligently.
Because damage to a helmet is not easy to spot, manufacturers recommend
that you replace your helmet after 5 years when UV light and weathering
have weakened the helmet's structure.
